14th Annual Somerville Road Runners 24 Hour Around the Lake race supports WEF

24 Hour Around the Lake participants The Somerville Road Runners will be hosting their 14th Annual 24 Hour Around the Lake Races at Lake Quannapowitt starting at 7PM Friday July 30, 2010. Proceeds of the race benefit the Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) and the kids in the Wakefield Public School system! This race is not for the faint of heart or spirit! There are 4 events: a marathon (26.2 miles), a 24-hour ultra marathon, a 12-hour ultra marathon and a 24-hour team relay. The course is a sequence of 3.16 mile loops around Lake Quannapowitt. This is a great opportunity for local athletes to participate in an inspiring event. And as an added benefit, the race raises funds for WEF and Children's Hospital! This event, run every year by Somerville Road Runners, has contributed over $20,000 over the last 2 years to both organizations! You can learn more on the race website: www.srr.org/events/annual_events/24hour/2010/index.htm or contact Noel Clarke at 24hour@srr.org. Online registration only.

Somerville Road Runners support WEF!

WEF Board accept donation from SRR Race DirectorsOrganizers of the 13th Annual “24 Hour Around the Lake Marathon, Relay and Ultra Marathon” recently presented a portion of the proceeds from the July, 2009 event around Lake Quannapowitt to the Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF). Somerville Road Runners, the organizers of the run, have been supporting WEF for over 10 years with generous donations from the 24 hour event. WEF President, Gayle Wettach and Co-Vice President’s Mary Jennings and Beth Hendriks accepted the donation from race directors Noel Clark, Josh Grzegorzewski, and Larry Horlick. One of the missions of the SRR is to promote a culture of fitness while working with communities to give something back. They have certainly done this in Wakefield by supporting WEF which in turn supports the educational enrichment of the students in the Wakefield Public Schools. WEF is a non-profit, tax-exempt foundation founded in 1989 by a group of concerned citizens to fund enrichment programs in the Wakefield Public Schools.
